As with all things, water gardens can have their share of issues. Leaks, algae blooms and other issues can be relatively easy to fix. However, when the favorite fish starts acting funny, it takes an expert to find the problem.

Pondscapes Atlanta has that expert. Our experts have over a decade of aquatic management experience. Our expert, Rich Carter, has a BS in Science in fisheries and aquaculture. He has supervised many large-scale aquatic stores, and a tropical fish hatchery. Pulling from this extensive background he can assist in getting your beloved fish healthy again quickly. Sometimes, a simple water quality test and assessment are enough to fix an aquatic problem. Unfortunately, there are cases when your fish are far worse off, and we need to supply a microscopic analysis to pinpoint the source of the problem. Pondscapes Atlanta has the tools to do just that. Once we know the problem, our experts can make suggestions on how to eradicate parasites and disease based on the specific problem.

Reasons to Clean your Atlanta, Georgia Pond

Some ponds are never cleaned and the waterways and its residents survive very well. However, a majority of aquatic environments are created with high fish densities or are built in locations where the koi pond receives a great deal of debris during the season. Even if you just establish a few aquatic animals in the beginning, in a balanced pond they will breed to the point that the number of fish will push the environmental balance of your aquatic environment and maintenance levels.

Cleaning during the autumn months reduces wastes in the lower levels of the aquatic environment which may become anaerobic if sufficient oxygen is not available, creating a breeding ground for harmful organisms, or which may start rotting, releasing ammonia and other dangerous pollutants that can be trapped under the water shelf. The establishment of these pollutants can start fish kills over the winter months. While maintaining a clearing in the ice over the cold season will assist with alleviating the buildup of gases, pond cleaning before winter sets in will help eliminate the overall potential for issues.

Maintaining the pond in the spring may help with reducing infections and parasites that often form as the pond and its biology heat up for the summer, as well as reduce the overall supplication of food that start algae blooms.
